Deadline extended to Aug. 11: U of I seeks Extension Specialist, Pesticide Safety

PRIMARY FUNCTION Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to prepare educational materials and conduct training clinics to support the Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP) for state licensing requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
o Conduct training clinics to support the pesticide safety education program for state licensing requirements for both private and commercial applicators.
o Provide leadership regarding identification and pest management of insect pests.
o Develop educational programs and materials focused on the integrated pest management of ornamental horticultural insects in formats including group-based live teaching, web-based individualized learning, as well as training manuals, workbooks, and news articles.
o Develop expertise in various areas of pesticide safety education.
o Develop educational programming in the area of insect pests and their management.
o Interact with state and federal regulatory personnel as needed.
o Opportunities to teach university courses and conduct applied research exist.
o Overnight travel is required during the PSEP training season.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Entomology or related field. Preferred: Master’s degree in Entomology or related field

EXPERIENCE Required: One year of experience in public speaking, writing, and development of educational materials. Preferred: Experience with insect identification and pesticide application

TRAINING/CERIFICATIONS/LICENSES Pesticide Applicator License is desirable but not required.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of plant pests and their control using pesticides, and a working knowledge of pesticides and their proper use.
APPOINTMENT STATUS This is a 12-month, 100% academic professional position.
SALARY Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience
