New Corn Leafhopper Pest Alert Published
A new pest alert about the corn leafhopper (Dalbulus maidis) is available. The Suction Trap Network and the Corn Leafhopper and Corn Stunt Working Group collaborated to create this two-page factsheet to improve awareness and monitoring of this insect pest, which spreads corn stunt disease pathogens.
Corn leafhoppers move northward from Mexico each year, following the availability of young corn plants. Awareness of corn leafhopper populations and movements can lead to improved detection and management of corn stunt diseases.
The new Corn Leafhopper Pest Alert includes identification tips, life cycle information, symptoms of corn stunt diseases in corn, and monitoring recommendations. Tips for distinguishing corn leafhopper from other leafhopper species are also included.
