2027 Funds Available from the North Central IPM Center
The North Central Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Center is accepting applications for 2027 Working Group and Critical Issue projects. These funding opportunities support research, collaboration, outreach, and education that address important disease, insect, and weed management challenges across the North Central region.
The Center has $300,000 in total funding available with individual projects eligible to receive up to $30,000. Matching funds are not required.
2027 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO)
A Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is the official announcement of available funding that provides the requirements, eligibility criteria, priorities, application instructions, and deadlines for applying. The 2027 NOFOs provide the details you need to prepare and submit proposals for Working Group and Critical Issue projects.
Funded projects will support the North Central IPM Center’s mission to improve human health, environmental quality, and economic conditions in the region through integrated pest management. Projects should address regional needs and align with at least one of the Center’s regional priorities.
Funding Categories
Working Groups
Working Group grants support multistate and multidisciplinary collaboration among researchers, extension professionals, regulators, industry stakeholders, and other partners working to address shared pest management challenges.
Working Groups must demonstrate active collaboration across multiple states within the North Central region.
Critical Issues
Critical Issue projects address important pest management information, resource, research, or outreach needs with regional significance. Projects may address emerging or invasive pests, resistance management, pest risk assessment, decision-support tools, resilient production systems, and other critical IPM needs.
Funding Details
Total funding available: $300,000 across all grant programs
Maximum award: Up to $30,000 per project
Matching funds: Not required
Period of performance: March 1, 2027–February 29, 2028
Deadline: Tuesday, December 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. CT).
Proposals must align with at least one of the North Central IPM Center’s IPM priorities:
- Emerging and Invasive Pest Response
- Resistance Management
- Data-Driven Pest Risk Assessment and Decision Support
- Resilient Production Systems
These priorities also support the goals of the National Road Map for Integrated Pest Management and the USDA-NIFA Crop Protection and Pest Management program.
Each project may receive up to $30,000 for a 12-month period.
Important Details for 2027
Please note that the requirements in our funding opportunities have been updated. All proposals must be written to directly align with the current guidelines.
Under USDA NIFA terms and conditions, all senior and key personnel must generate both their Biographical Sketch (CV) and Current & Pending Support documents using SciENcv (Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae). Key Personnel must also satisfy USDA eligibility standards, including mandatory Research Security Training.
The lead Project Director must reside in the North Central region. Eligible applicants include faculty and qualified staff of universities and colleges, private individuals, businesses, commodity organizations, and nongovernmental or governmental organizations.
