Texas A&M seeks Research Technician in Department of Entomology

Research Technician Job Opportunity
A Research Technician position is available in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University.  The successful candidate will join a research team focusing on biosurveillance of mosquito-borne viruses, including Zika, Chikungunya, and Dengue viruses in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.  Projects will involve working with local jurisdictions and community engagement to address research questions related to the risk of human exposure to mosquito-borne viruses along with enhanced biosurveillance in the region.  The candidate will help with field collections of mosquitoes, human questionnaires, and sample processing in the lab.
No degree requirements.  Candidates with a B.S. degree in a related field and candidates with higher degrees (M.S. and/or PhD) are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates should demonstrate a good track record of organizational, written, and oral communication skills. The successful candidate must work independently and as an effective member of multidisciplinary collaborative teams and have excellent interpersonal skills with a diversity of people especially the general public
Special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
The candidate must be proficient at basic computer skills and database management, must have a valid U.S. driver’s license.  Preference will be given to candidates that are fluent in Spanish and English.  Preference will be given to candidates with field experience of knowledge of insects.
Position details:
Application review will begin immediately, and the position will remain open until filled. The expected start date is between December, 2016 and February, 2017. The position is available for one year with the possibility of renewal depending on performance and available funds.  Salary range is between $24,000 and $35,000, commensurate with experience.  The position will be based out of the lab of Dr. Ismael Badillo-Vargas at Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Weslaco, TX.  The candidate will work closely with Dr. Hamer, Dr. Badillo-Vargas, and several other collaborators.
