Global Food Security Act of 2016 passes

Today, the House of Representatives passed S. 1252, the Global Food Security Act of 2016, sending it to President Obama to be signed into law. The legislation authorized $1 billion for President Obama’s Feed the Future program, launched in 2010 to tackle poverty and hunger by assisting farmers in some of the world’s poorest countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Nepal. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, said of the bill, “While the world may be changing rapidly, one thing will never change: The American farmer will always play a significant role in promoting food security at home and abroad.”
