1864s: Land grant institutions established by the Morrill Act of 1864 (one in every state; in the NE they are U. of Maine., U. of Vt., U. of N.H., UMass., UConn., U. of R.I., Rutgers, Cornell, Penn State, U. of Md., U. of Del., W.V.U., and U. of DC)
1890s: Historically black institutions of higher learning (in the NE there are only two, Delaware State and University of Maryland, Eastern Shore)
1994s: Native American institutions of higher learning (mostly community colleges; none in the NE)
AA: Administrative Advisor; an experiment station director who has been assigned to work with a multistate research project

AAPSE: American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators (an organization of Cooperative Extension pesticide safety educators and pesticide certification instructors)

ARS: Agricultural Research Service; the in-house research unit within USDA
BOAA: Board on Agriculture Assembly (the agricultural division of NASULGC)

CAR: Crops at Risk (section 406 grants program through USDA CSREES)
CARAT: Committee to Advise on Reassessment and Transition (established by EPA and USDA to advise on strategic approaches to planning, transition, and tolerance reassessment for pesticides as required by the FQPA)
CES: Cooperative Extension Service
CRIS: Current Research Information System (program within CSREES/USDA that tracks research projects within land grant and USDA agencies
CSREES: Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, USDA
CWG: Commodity Working Group (now IPM Working Group)
ECOP: Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (part of the BOAA in NASULGC)
EPA: Environmental Protection Agency
EQIP: Environmental Quality Incentives Program
ESCOP: Experiment Station Committee on Organization and Policy (part of the BOAA in NASULGC)

Hatch Funds: Federal funds administered by experiment stations. The Hatch Act of 1887 established SAES and provided a mechanism for allocation federal support. Hatch Funds are also known as Formula Funds

MRP: Multistate Research Project, a coordinated research project between two or more experiment stations that is partially supported by a designated portion of Hatch Funds call Multistate Research Funds

RIPM: Regional IPM (often used as shorthand for Regional IPM Grants Program in the Northeast)
