Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Location: Department of Entomology, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506-4004. Appointment: 12-month, full-time (40 hours/week), term, non-tenure track position. Annual renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Salary: $39,000-42,000/year (negotiable based on experience) plus benefits Starting Date: May 1, 2016 Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include development of image libraries collected from unmanned aerial systems (UAS) using several camera technologies (digital SLR, multispectral, hyperspectral) at plant and sub-plant levels within production wheat fields. The successful candidate will be responsible for experimental design, rearing target pests (e.g., Russian wheat aphid), and statistical analysis to support research comparing current and commonly deployed sampling methodologies for common wheat pests. The overall project focuses on the use of UAS data to identify infested areas and inform surveillance decisions made by biosecurity personnel and pest managers. Qualifications: Ph.D in Entomology, Biology, or a closely related field with a strong background in plant-insect interactions. A background in the application of statistical models (e.g., glm, mixed models, multivariate analysis) is required. Familiarity with geospatial statistics software packages (ArcGIS, R) and experience with developing sampling plans for pests of field crops is strongly preferred. Candidate must also demonstrate evidence of successful communication of results through published manuscripts, conference presentations, or related activities.
