An Area Extension Specialist (Extension Associate) position is open on the Lake Ontario Fruit Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension.

The position is a good blend of Extension and time for applied research on specific pest challenges in the commercial fruit industry in collaboration with Cornell faculty. This person will work on a four-person team to assist the commercial tree fruit and berry industry of Wayne, Monroe, Orleans, Niagara, and Oswego Counties. He/She will also collaborate with other Extension Associates in tree fruit across the state. There will be travel across the Lake Ontario Fruit region along the southern shore of Lake Ontario, travel to Geneva, and Ithaca, as well as occasional trips to other parts of the NY fruit industry. There will also be opportunity to travel for professional development to other fruit producing regions in the US and internationally as appropriate.

This region is famous for high quality fruit production with a vibrant industry that is very supportive of extension. There are approximately 500 tree fruit farms with 30,000 acres and nearly 200 berry farms with 500 acres in the region.
