WORK LOCATION: Department of Entomology, LSU AgCenter campus and LSU College of Agriculture, Baton Rouge, La.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Department of Entomology in the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center invites applications for a 12 month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. This position is located on the main campus of LSU in Baton Rouge and carries a 60% research, 30% extension and 10% teaching appointment. Applications are sought from broadly trained entomologists who utilize modern approaches to study aspects of the management, ecology, behavior or evolution of insects of relevance in urban environments. Candidates are sought who will complement existing strengths in the Department in the areas of integrated pest management, ecology, molecular biology, taxonomy, physiology, and toxicology. Major insects of concern in Louisiana urban areas and urban landscapes include Formosan subterranean termites, other termite species, ants, bedbugs, and cockroaches. The incumbent will be expected to develop an internationally recognized program of research and provide support and training to diverse groups of stakeholders, including the pest control industry, homeowners, parish agricultural and natural resource agents, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, and Louisiana Department of Health. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and training in the Department, including advising graduate and undergraduate students, teaching general entomology and a graduate course in his/her area of specialty, and participating in certification of pest control operators.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in entomology or closely related field of study is required. Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and interact with diverse stakeholders. Applicants should demonstrate effective oral, written and electronic communication skills necessary for presentations to a variety of audiences.
