Position Location: Dept. of Entomology and Nematology, University of California-Davis, Davis, CA.
Position Summary: This position is funded in part by a grant from the Specialty Crop Research Initiative. The scholar will determine current status of brown marmorated stink bugs (Halyomorpha halys) on specialty crops in the Central Valley of California and develop and refine pest management programs appropriate for this invasive stink bug in this important agricultural production area. Pest biology, biological control, damage potential, sampling, and management will be among the areas of interest.
Degree Requirement: Ph.D. degree in entomology or related field. Experience in conducting field, pest management, and applied ecological studies needed. Evidence of ability to conceive, plan, and conduct laboratory and field experiments needed, using proper experimental design and statistical analyses. Excellent observational skills required. Ability to communicate results to the grower community as well as to scientific audiences required. Working effectively with team members including growers, Cooperative Extension personnel, and other staff is critical. Must be able to obtain a California driver’s license within the first two months of employment. Preferred qualifications include experience with IPM research and outreach in cropping systems. Travel required as research area may be up to a three hour drive from the UC-Davis campus.
Appointment: This is a 12-month fixed-term position. Funding is available for 1 year with additional years available dependent on progress and continued availability of funding. Salary commensurate with experience within the University of California Compensation Plan for Postdoctoral Scholars.
