(http://www.entomology.umn.edu ) is a strong and nationally-recognized department offering highly ranked programs of study at M.S. and Ph.D. levels. The Department also contributes to interdisciplinary undergraduate education. The Department has a distinguished faculty who have won numerous University and national awards for excellence in teaching, outreach, and
published research. Department faculty represent a variety of fields including urban, forest, agricultural, veterinary, medical, and aquatic entomology; molecular biology and genetics; neurobiology; ecology, taxonomy and systematics; apiculture; physiology; biological control; integrated pest management in plant and animal systems; and related fields of study.
The Department’s graduate program is recognized nationally (NRC ranked #4) and internationally for both its quality and breadth. Graduates of the M.S. and Ph.D. programs advance into faculty positions at universities in the U.S. and abroad, research positions with government agencies and international organizations, and various positions with private sector firms.
The Department also has active extension programs that fulfill the Land-Grant mission of the University. By collaborating with other collegiate units, regional outreach centers, government agencies and private industry, the Department delivers state-of-the-art applied research and education on diverse issues such as: insect health in multifunctional landscapes, biological control and integrated pest management, urban pests in nderserved
communities, and honeybee management. Outreach through the Bee Squad and Master Gardeners expands the educational impacts of the Department.
Key responsibilities of the Head include:
● Administrative leadership for all aspects of the Department of Entomology including matters of fiscal,
personnel, and operational excellence
● Providing strong support for and leadership of activities, including teaching, research, extension, and
outreach on campus and affiliated centers
● Representation of the Department within the University and to stakeholder groups, state, national, and
● Fostering linkages across Collegiate and University units
● Creation and support of efforts to secure resources that strengthen and broaden the Department’s
mission and advance its national and international reputation
A successful candidate will demonstrate the following leadership competencies:

● Candidates must have an earned doctorate in entomology or a closely related field
● Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience after the completion of the doctoral degree
● Record of excellence in research, teaching and or outreach productivity that meets the criteria for rank of Full Professor in the Department; must be eligible for tenure at the rank of Full Professor in the Department of Entomology
● Record of administrative experience to include experience in fiscal management
● Ability to create and articulate a Departmental vision

Nature of Appointment:
Academic and administrative appointment will be on a twelve-month basis as Head and tenured faculty position
as Full Professor. The initial administrative appointment is for three years. Subsequent annual reappointment
will be dependent on performance and outcome of administrative reviews conducted every three to five years.
Salary is commensurate with experience and achievement, and carries an administrative salary augmentation.
